Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join a fast-paced, mission-critical environment focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and lifecycle performance of mechanical systems across a portfolio of data centers. This role supports specialized cooling infrastructure, building management systems (BMS), and energy efficiency initiatives from design through to daily operations.
This position reports to a senior leadership executive.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of mechanical engineering, including basis of design, scopes of work, implementation plans, and commissioning strategies.
Ensure ongoing availability and reliability of mechanical systems across all sites, including HVAC, chilled water systems, and other critical cooling infrastructure.
Approve and oversee upgrades that increase capacity, reliability, and energy efficiency.
Maintain and update all as-built documentation and master mechanical system records.
Perform field inspections to identify and resolve discrepancies between system design and actual installation.
Develop, implement, and manage maintenance programs to ensure system health and efficiency.
Create and review detailed maintenance procedures, including annual service schedules.
Support operational teams in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and system performance reviews.
Provide immediate technical expertise during critical system events and participate in an on-call rotation.
Manage vendor relationships and mechanical service contracts to ensure compliance and performance.
Maintain all system documentation, schematics, and process records.
Drive improvements in energy usage, system reliability, and mechanical performance.
Provide estimates for time and materials needed for projects and repairs.
Occasional travel to data center sites may be required.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
7+ years of experience in mechanical design, operations, and support for mission-critical environments, ideally within data centers.
Technical Experience:
Deep understanding of mechanical infrastructure in large-scale data centers, including water-cooled chiller plants, raised floor cooling, piping distribution, and automated control systems.
Proficiency in interpreting construction documents, specifications, and submittals.
Project management experience is beneficial.
Skills:
Familiarity with mission-critical design topologies (e.g., N+1, 2N, N+20%).
Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities with excellent communication skills.
Ability to optimize system design for availability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
Highly organized and able to manage priorities, deadlines, and budgets effectively.
Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, and standard office software tools.
