New York / DC / Los Angeles $190k+ (depending on experience) + bonus + benefits Permanent

Director of Investments

Location: New York, NY | Washington, DC | Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)

Overview

We are seeking a Director of Investments to join the Investments team at a leading renewable energy company specializing in distributed generation and commercial solar. This individual will play a pivotal role in originating, structuring, and executing investments across solar and storage assets, managing relationships with key financing partners, and guiding projects from development through commercial operation.

This role replaces a long-standing team member and represents an opportunity to join an established platform with a strong balance sheet, active project pipeline, and direct access to capital. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in tax equity, debt, and project finance, coupled with a passion for accelerating the clean-energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead evaluation, pricing, structuring, and negotiation of solar and storage investments, including M&A, project finance, and structured transactions.

  • Oversee full investment lifecycle: due diligence, term-sheet negotiation, modeling, Investment Committee materials, and transaction closing.

  • Develop and maintain financial models that inform investment decisions, incorporating tax equity, debt, and sponsor returns.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (Development, Engineering, Pre-Construction, Asset Management, Legal, and Finance) to ensure alignment across deal execution and project delivery.

  • Manage relationships with external financiers, tax equity investors, lenders, and developers.

  • Support capital-raising initiatives and optimize capital deployment strategies across the portfolio.

  • Mentor and guide investment associates and analysts, fostering technical growth and professional development.

  • Provide market and policy insights to inform investment strategy and risk assessment.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of experience in renewable energy project finance, investments, or infrastructure finance.

  • Deep understanding of tax equity and debt financing structures for solar and storage assets.

  • Experience working with distributed generation, community solar, and/or C&I project portfolios.

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and valuation of renewable energy projects.

  • Proven track record of closing transactions and coordinating across technical, legal, and financial functions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).

  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills; ability to work cross-functionally and externally with investors and developers.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: ~$200,000

  • Annual Bonus: Target 30%

  • 401(k): 10% employer match

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid time off and flexible hybrid work schedule

  • Strong internal career growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding clean-energy platform

About the Opportunity

This is a high-visibility, director-level role reporting to the VP of Investments. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, data-driven, and mission-focused organization building and financing distributed solar and storage projects nationwide.

If you’re ready to shape the capital strategy behind the next generation of clean-energy projects, we’d love to connect and share more about this opportunity.
