Director, Data & Ai

Position Summary

This role owns the technology roadmap end to end, manages all technology vendor relationships, and leads architecture decisions on the data warehouse, integration layer, and AI platform. Platform ownership stays internal rather than vendor held. The role reports to the Chief Strategy Officer and directly manages an Automation Engineer, a Data and BI Analyst, and a CRM and Salesforce Analyst.

Core Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the technology roadmap with oversight from the Chief Strategy Officer
• Manage all technology vendor relationships relating to the roadmap, including evaluating deliverables, approving phase gate sign offs, and negotiating scope changes
• Lead architecture decisions on the data warehouse, integration layer, and AI platform
• Directly manage the Automation Engineer, Data and BI Analyst, and CRM and Salesforce Analyst
• Serve as the internal technical counterpart to the outsourced IT vendor's Delivery Director, with authority to challenge architecture and delivery decisions rather than simply receive them. Note: this role is not expected to oversee day to day IT management, which remains an outsourced service overseen by the Chief Strategy Officer

Technical Skills and Experience

• Azure and Microsoft 365 stack; hands on experience with Fabric, Azure AI Foundry, or Synapse strongly preferred
• Data engineering depth, including data warehouse design, ETL and ELT pipeline architecture, and data governance
• API integration experience, including REST APIs, Power Automate, and Azure Logic Apps
• AI and ML fluency sufficient to evaluate agent architectures, prompt governance, and vendor technical decisions
• 8 to 12 years of experience; energy, asset management, or financial services background preferred but not required
• Strong vendor management track record, as this role evaluates external work and not just internal delivery
