Position Overview
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for guiding the successful deployment of biogas projects from design through execution. This role combines hands-on project engineering with leadership responsibilities, coordinating project resources, supporting the engineering team, and ensuring effective project delivery. The role includes technical design and design review, vendor coordination, and cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, this role will interface with clients, translating project requirements into actions and coordinating project delivery with other participating disciplines.
The position also plays a key role in developing and standardizing documentation, improving engineering processes, and mentoring new and existing team members. Serving as both a technical authority and a cross-functional collaborator, the Senior Project Engineer helps shape day-to-day project execution while contributing to the long-term advancement of engineering standards, procedures, and team capabilities. A strong understanding of bioenergy systems and their applications in the field is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Project Engineering and Execution
•Project Design & Delivery: Coordinate core engineering tasks including system design and internal engineering review, equipment specification and procurement, and quality and safety compliance. Review deliverables with external clients and respond to feedback and Requests for Information (RFIs).
•Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate mechanical engineering and drafting, electrical engineering, controls and automation engineering, and process engineering to ensure cohesive project delivery.
•Commissioning Support: Advise commissioning teams to provide technical input and troubleshooting.
•Sales Alignment: Review proposed project scopes from the sales team to ensure feasibility and alignment with standard offerings; advise on adapting standards as needed to meet client requirements.
Standards & Process Improvement
•Standardization: Develop and maintain standard engineering practices, documentation, and workflows to support project consistency.
•Design Optimization: Lead initiatives to improve design efficiency, reduce rework, and enhance knowledge capture across the team.
Project Leadership and Coordination
•Project Planning: Define technical strategies and resource allocation approaches for incoming projects.
•Technical Governance: Guide and enforce consistent application of the company’s methods and standards.
Team Support and Development
•Mentorship & Onboarding: Guide and support new and existing team members including engineers, drafters, and interns.
•Knowledge Sharing: Promote continuous learning through internal trainings, process documentation, and technical discussions.
•Performance Input: Provide structured feedback and input to support annual performance reviews.

•Mentorship & Support: Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members, fostering a collaborative environment focused on shared knowledge, efficiency, and continuous growth.
Experience & Qualifications
Required
•Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
Experience:
–7+ years in a technical role within a process industry (Biogas/RNG preferred, water/wastewater, pulp and paper, oil and gas, etc.) including at least 5 years in a project engineering or project management role.
Skills & Knowledge:
–Working knowledge of:

◦risk identification and mitigation planning
◦schedule development and critical path management
◦resource planning
◦vendor or subcontractor management
◦procurement coordination
◦document control practices
–Familiarity with industrial process equipment and engineered systems.
–Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
–Working knowledge of project management software.
–Familiarity with ERP systems.
•Licensing and Certifications:
–Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred
Experience:
–10+ years in a technical role within a process industry (biogas/RNG, water/wastewater, pulp and paper, oil and gas, etc.) including at least 5 years in a project engineering or project management role within biogas/RNG.
–Experience mentoring early-career engineers.

◦CO2 removal / RNG upgrading
◦compression, flare, storage, and gas handling systems
◦digestate handling / nutrient recovery
–Proficiency with tools such as NetSuite, ClickUp, Microsoft Project.
•Licensing and Certifications:
–PMP
–Professional Engineering License (PE)
Physical Demands
•Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and use a keyboard regularly.
•Ability to perform job duties in varying environmental conditions, including extreme cold or heat, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
•Lifting requirements: up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
•This role may be performed in-office, hybrid, or remotely depending on candidate location and business needs, with required travel to the company’s office and project sites across the U.S. and internationally as required for project support (15%–30%).
•Flexible working hours, including regular early-morning overlap with an international team.
