Principal Engineer – Power System Modeling and Studies

REMOTE Competitive Permanent

The Opportunity

Are you ready to take a leading role in shaping the future of the power grid? We’re looking for a Principal Power Systems Studies Engineer to join our team and help drive critical work in transmission planning, generation interconnection, and grid resilience.

This isn’t just another engineering role — it’s a chance to lead high-impact studies, mentor talented engineers, and engage directly with utilities, developers, and RTOs across the country. You’ll combine technical expertise with leadership and client engagement to deliver solutions that matter.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the Work That Powers Tomorrow: Conduct and oversee advanced transmission planning and generation interconnection studies.
  • Build Smarter Models: Develop, validate, and refine power system models for steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analysis.
  • Shape the Industry Conversation: Collaborate with utilities, ISOs, project developers, and regulators across multiple markets (PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, TVA).
  • Grow and Guide Teams: Recruit, mentor, and support engineers as they develop their skills.
  • Drive Innovation: Bring fresh ideas to methodologies, automation, and tools that improve accuracy and efficiency in system studies.
  • Make an Impact Beyond the Desk: Work directly with clients and leadership on strategies that expand our services and open new market opportunities.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 8+ years in transmission planning and/or generation interconnection studies.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld.
  • The ability to lead — whether that’s guiding a study, mentoring a colleague, or representing the team with clients.
  • Strong communication skills (you can explain technical complexity clearly to any audience).
  • A collaborative mindset and the drive to push innovation in energy systems.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 25% for client work and industry engagement.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience with dynamic transient stability or electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies.
  • Familiarity with tools such as PSCAD or EMTP.
  • Knowledge of inverter-based resource (IBR) modeling.

Why Join?

  • Impactful Work: You’ll be part of projects that directly influence how the grid evolves to meet future demand.
  • Flexible and Remote-First: Work from where you’re happiest, with flexibility built into your schedule.
  • Real Work-Life Balance: We value productivity and well-being — no endless hours, just a focused 40-hour week (or less, if that’s what works for you).
  • Competitive Package: Strong salary, great benefits (medical, dental, 401k, PTO), and professional development support.
  • A Great Team: Smart, humble, collaborative colleagues who care about what they do — and about each other.

👉 If you’re passionate about power systems and ready to make your mark, we’d love to connect.
