Overview

An established developer of large-scale energy and transmission infrastructure projects is seeking a Senior Project Manager – Substation Engineering to oversee the design and delivery of high-voltage substations supporting renewable generation, energy storage, and transmission assets across the Southwest.

This is a key leadership position for an experienced engineer with a strong background in HV/MV substation design, interconnection, and project execution. The ideal candidate brings both deep technical expertise and the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects from early development through construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and provide technical oversight to external engineering partners and consultants throughout project lifecycles.

• Lead the development, design, and delivery of HV substation components for major renewable and transmission projects.

• Develop, monitor, and manage detailed project schedules to meet critical milestones.

• Coordinate with interconnection teams, utilities, and system operators to support technical submissions and agreements.

• Maintain a working knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and best practices (IEEE, NESC, etc.).

• Produce and review specification documents, meeting notes, reports, and presentations for both internal and external audiences.

• Contribute to a collaborative team culture while maintaining autonomy and accountability for assigned deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one U.S. state.

• 15+ years of experience in substation engineering, including 3+ years in a project management or leadership role.

• Proven track record managing 345kV and 500kV substation projects.

• Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and related regulatory documentation.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage effectively with engineering, development, and construction teams.

• Based in (or willing to relocate to) the Phoenix, AZ area.
