Sr. Manager / Director, Development – Renewable Energy (East Coast)
root/edge is working on behalf of a well-capitalized, growth-oriented energy transition company that is developing one of the largest pipelines of utility-scale solar, energy storage, and load-serving infrastructure projects in North America.
We’re seeking an experienced Sr. Manager or Director of Development to lead a growing portfolio of utility-scale projects across PJM and MISO. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a driven development professional with full-lifecycle experience—from land and permitting through to NTP and construction.
This role reports to the executive development team and will manage one direct report while collaborating closely with internal cross-functional teams across development, engineering, energy markets, legal, and finance.
Lead cross-disciplinary teams to advance solar, energy storage, and load-serving projects from origination through construction readiness.
Oversee a portfolio of development-stage projects with responsibility for budgets, schedules, risk assessments, and commercial prioritization.
Coordinate all aspects of project development including land acquisition, interconnection, permitting, engineering, and legal matters.
Guide permitting and entitlement strategy at the local, state, and federal levels.
Support key commercial negotiations including PPAs, EPCs, interconnection agreements, and offtake strategies.
Manage and mentor a direct report, while contributing to a collaborative, people-first team culture.
Conduct diligence on M&A opportunities and help evaluate potential acquisitions in partnership with business development.
7+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development.
Deep familiarity with PJM and/or MISO markets is essential.
Proven track record managing projects through key development milestones including permitting, interconnection, and contracting.
Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, environmental science, business, or energy preferred.
Ability to work from the Washington, D.C. office at least 3 days per week, with up to 30% travel.
