Director Quality HV Power Transformers

The Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a high-growth US power grid equipment manufacturer backed by tier-one energy transition investors. The company builds transmission-class power transformers, switchgear, and HV circuit breakers — US-engineered, manufactured through partner factories in India, delivered in twelve months against an industry norm of two to three years. They have $550M+ in contracted orders and a growing customer base spanning utilities, hyperscaler data center developers, and renewable IPPs.

Quality is the constraint. They need someone to build the quality management system from zero — standards, supplier oversight, FAT and SAT protocols, corrective action frameworks — and own it as the business scales. This is a founding-team-adjacent hire with equity, a team to lead, and a direct line to the CEO.

What You Will Own

• Design and implement the company's quality management system from scratch — documentation, supplier qualification, inspection protocols, ISO 9001 / IEEE C57 / IEC 60076 / NABL / UL compliance
• Set and enforce acceptance standards for transmission-class transformers at 345 kV, 500 kV, and 765 kV — FAT protocols, SAT oversight, oil testing, partial discharge, SFRA
• Lead and develop a team of 5–8 quality engineers in India
• Own the quality interface between the US engineering team and India manufacturing partners — hold both sides accountable
• Build audit, supplier quality, and CAPA programs that scale with a rapidly growing order book
• Serve as the quality face to US utility and data center customers during FATs, site audits, and escalations

What We Are Looking For

Must-haves:

• Deep background in power transformer quality — OEM manufacturing, utility supplier quality, or both
• High-voltage experience at 345 kV and above; fluency in the testing regimens and failure modes at transmission class
• Proven track record building quality systems, not just maintaining them
• Strong grasp of what US utility and hyperscaler customers expect from transformer documentation, FAT rigor, and field traceability
• Comfortable leading across a US–India operating model; direct communicator who can set standards and enforce them remotely

Strong additions:

• Experience at a recognized transformer OEM or major utility supplier quality function
• Candidates based in or originally from South Korea or Brazil are strongly encouraged — quality culture and rigor are paramount
• Familiarity with NABL-accredited or UL-recognized testing environments

Location & Travel

US-based : plan for a two-to-three month initial immersion in India plus quarterly travel thereafter. There is also the option to spend an initial period of 12-18 months as an expat assignment in India. 

India-based: regular US travel for customer FATs and engineering alignment.
